DVA has made changes to how telehealth services work for veterans. You now need at least one face to face GP visit every 12 months to keep your bulk-billed telehealth access. You may also need an in-person consultation for alternative therapy / pain management assessments as per DVA guidelines.
Maintain Your DVA Telehealth Access with Annual Face to Face GP Appointments
Veteran Medical can be your treating GP and your one-stop clinic for all things veteran healthcare. Whether it’s DVA claims support, ongoing care, pain management, allied health referrals, prescriptions, incapacity payments, Household Services, or anything in between — we’ve got you covered. Simply come and see us face to face once a year at our Australia wide locations and we can continue to support you via telehealth afterwards, making your ongoing care as convenient as possible.
DVA also now requires a regular treating GP to complete and support many claims and assessments. While we cannot guarantee outcomes — as all decisions rest with DVA — if you are an existing and ongoing patient with us, we are well placed to assist you through the process. If you’re not yet a patient, we’d love to hear from you. Contact us to establish a treating relationship and get the right support in place from the start. We are veteran health specialists and we’re here to help.
We collaborate closely with advocates, legal representatives, and other professionals who can assist you in lodging and managing your DVA claims. While we don’t handle the claims submission process, our team provides the clinical expertise and medical documentation you need to strengthen your case.

FAQ
DVA now requires veterans to have at least one in-person GP consultation every 12 months to continue accessing bulk-billed telehealth services. Without this, you may lose access to phone and video appointments under DVA’s arrangements. This is outside of practitioners’ control and the decision making sits with DVA.
If you are being prescribed alternative therapies, DVA also requires a face-to-face appointment with the authorised prescriber for the initial consultation. We are able to facilitate this – please get in touch with our team.
DVA guidelines require ONE in-person assessment before a doctor can prescribe alternative therapies. A telehealth appointment alone is not sufficient. Veteran Medical can conduct this assessment at one of our many clinic locations across Australia. Contact us for more information.
Yes. We can be your GP for the purposes of meeting DVA’s face to face requirement and take on your ongoing care — including prescriptions, specialist referrals, allied health referrals, incapacity forms as well as many other services you can get from your local GP. Once your face-to-face visit is done, all of this can be managed via telehealth from the comfort of your own home for the next 12 months. Some of our locations are permanent and others operate based on demand, so if there isn’t a clinic near you or availability is limited, get in touch and we can come up with a solution for you.
You may no longer be eligible for bulk-billed DVA telehealth services. This is DVA governed and outside of our control. It’s worth getting ahead of this — book a face to face with us and keep your access uninterrupted.
Yes. Your face-to-face appointment will be bulk billed. After your telehealth appointment, you will also be eligible for ongoing bulk-billed care via telehealth with our team.
We have locations across Australia including Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Canberra, Adelaide, Perth, Newcastle, Geelong, Bendigo, Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast, Townsville, Cairns, Darwin, Hobart, Central Coast, Wagga Wagga, Mudgee, Inverell, and Perth City and many more to come.
Absolutely. We know the DVA system can feel overwhelming. We will do our best, within our scope to help with your ongoing GP care, prescriptions, allied health referrals, incapacity payments, permanent impairment claims (subject to DVA approval etc), Health Household Services, and DVA claims support. You don’t have to navigate it alone — just get in touch.
